DID YOU FEEL THE MOUNTAINS TREMBLE?

Finally, I had some free time and the weather was good, so I was able to hike up my first Colorado 14er of 2009. It is a fourteener that I did ten years ago.

Quandary Peak 14,271 feet (4,350 m) tall and the 13th highest peak in the state of Colorado. It is a little south of Breckenridge, Colorado.

I climbed the peak with my friend Rick. It was his 2nd 14er and the first time we did a 14er together.

When we hiked Quandary this time, we did the East Ridge Standard Route instead of the one I used last time (The Southwest Blue Lakes Trail). It is easier I guess, but I am so out of shape (and also have a bummed calf that I strained a muscle in the day before the hike), it was not easier for me. On the harder trail (less miles but a lot steeper) ten years ago, I did it in a faster time than I did this time (more miles but less steep). It took a lot longer to get to the top than it should have. However, I got there. So that is good.

We did not see any mountain goats. All the trail reports from the few days before we went had mountain goat photos. A group behind us said they saw one. So we were a bit a head of the goats, I guess. That is too bad as I love seeing mountain goats.

The weather was nice. It was partly cloudy and cool. When we went down there was a bit of rain and it stopped till when we were about a minute from the car and it really came down then. We just got a little wet, so that is not too bad.

I was thinking of doing Longs later this month, but after struggling so much with Quandary I am not sure I am ready for Longs. I am just too far out of shape. So maybe, I will just do some other 14ers this summer that are not as hard as Longs. I would like to do one I have not reach the top of before. We will see what life brings. Mostly, I need to workout. I am getting way too far out of shape, but life is busy. I know, that is true for everyone. I need to get it done.

    I’M MY OWN GRANDPA

Over the 7/11 weekend, I attended the wedding of my cousin to his cousin. No, that is not right. It was the wedding of my cousin to his brother’s cousin. Wait, it was the wedding of my cousin to his sister-in-law’s cousin. Maybe, I should just say I was at a family wedding.

Really, my cousin Aaron did get married to Michelle in Oklahoma City. She is Aarons sister-in-law’s (Kandace) cousin. So in some ways this wedding had a lot of the same people at it as Daryl and Kadance’s wedding. You know, kind of a family reunion and a wedding.

My brother and I drove down to OKC from Denver. We stay at my friend’s (Bill) apartment. Bill is going law school in OKC.
It was good to get a lot of time with my brother and spend some time with Bill. We did a few things with Bill like look at the law school he is attending and we went to the OKC bombing site.

The rest of the time we were my family for the wedding events. The wedding was nice and everything went really well. It was hot and humid, but thankfully the wedding was in a church with good A/C not outside.

For the trip home, I drove back home with my parents who had gotten to OKC from WY via of Houston . I think I need to get my dad a GPS for Christmas. Just kidding, he had to go that way for work . My brother went back home to Palm Springs from OKC. I think he got tried of me. Just kidding, sort of.

The trip was also educational. I learned my Grandpa was colorblind. I never knew that.

Also, I learned what Noodling (To fish for catfish using your bare hands) is and there is a big contest every year in a town in Oklahoma.

Who knew you could get an education in Oklahoma.

Anyways, it was a great trip. Congratulations to Aaron and Michelle. Click Here to see the photos.

HEROES COME IN EVER SHAPE AND SIZE

I know there is a time for everything, but still I want to shout, “Say it ain’t so Joe”!

So Super Joe is probably retiring later this week after twenty years for the NHL. It is tough for us Colorado Avalanche fans to bear. However, I so hope he and his wife stays around Denver. They really do seem to do so much for the community. It would be a great lost for people with hearts like theirs to not be around our town.

So I was thinking about all my favorite moments he has given us on the ice. Below is a video that is probably my favorite memory. Maybe, because it was not typical of the Sakic. Maybe, because it was at the height of the Red Wings/Avs rivalry.

The best part of the video is they put the audio from the radio call of Mike Haynes on there. The radio call was how I fight heard the game when it happen.

Also, I thought it would be great to include my favorite Sakic cartoon from Win, Lose, & Drew. Today on Drew’s site, he also included the cartoon as his favorite, so he beat me to the punch as usually. Still I am going to include it.

Take Care Joe! Thanks for being Super on and off the ice.

PEOPLE THINK YOU’RE COOL JUST CAUSE YOU’RE ON TV

So I was watching the Rockies game and one of their funny team ads came on. That got me thinking about the last few years and the best of Rockies commercials.

So I picked the ones I thought were the best over the last few years and setup a poll so you can vote for what you think is the best.

Feel free to vote and leave comments about what you like and dislike about those team ads. I have linked to Youtube each video so you could see them if you need to before voting.
