NEW LIFE IS STARTING

There are some congratulations that I been meaning to mention for so long, and I thought this was a good as time as any.

BIRTHS

  • Nate and Katrina Thomas on the birth of their third child, Connor Jude. He was born on April 12, 2008, and he was 7 lbs and 14 oz. It is nice for my accountant to get another tax exemption.
  • Andy and Brandy Swint on the birth of their first child, Ryan. He was born on April 14, 2008, and he was 8 lb 8 oz and 19 inches. You know you are getting old when those youth group kids you worked with in college now have their own children.
  • Jeremy and Mandee Hamann on the birth of Eliot Warren Hamann. He is their third child. He entered the world on June 29, 2008. He was 8lbs, 1 oz. and 19 inches. Yes, there will be many more photos of the newest member of our family.

ENGAGEMENTS

  • Josh Dewey and Charolette Moon. They got engaged over the weekend of June 19, 2008, and in mountain style. He proposed to her on a ridge on Redcloud Peak at sunrise.

RETIREMENT (of sorts)

  • Coach Peterson who is resigned from teaching/coaching after 30 years. He was my PE teacher from 1st grade to 6th grade and in high school and he taught some of my classes in high school. He was my high school wrestling coach, and he had to put up with me with the football and basketball teams as well. We spent many of hours setting up the field or the gyms. If fact, sometimes I think I spent more time with him in those years than his wife did. Here is a write up on the story in the local paper.
  • Rod Smith is retiring from the NFL. I do not Mr. Smith or have I ever meet him. However, I have lots of good memories for all the special things he did as a Wide Receiver for the Denver Broncos. It was great career. I will wish him well.
  • Delirious? is also ending the band at the end of 2009. They have been together since 1987 and they are one of my favorite worship groups. Martin Smith and the band have really helped change Christian music. I will have been touched by their work and will miss them.

DID YOU FEEL THE MOUNTAINS TREMBLE?

Well, I was able to hike up my first fourteener of 2008. It is a fourteener I have done before, but it was a good to get out in nature.

Mt. Sherman is near Fairplay, Colorado. It has a rich mining history and for a fourteener in Colorado it is one of the easier ones.

Good news for me, it seems my health issues are much better as this year I was able to hike without throwing up so much. I was so thankful. The meds are working, but they did cause me to gain some weight. I am also out of shape. So those issues are a pain, but those can be taken care of by me.

Some of the interesting things that happen to us on this hike are the following:

  • We met a family of three generations hiking up and down the peak. The youngest was a 20 month old boy who was carried by his dad. Great people.
  • We meet at father and teenage son who were doing their first 14er. The father’s mother passed away about two weeks ago, and they decided they wanted to do a 14er to enjoy life.
  • There was a senior adult group climbing up as we came down. Very cool that they were doing a 14er.
  • There were a lot of families climbing with a lot of children. By far the most children I have seen out on a 14er.
  • While we were coming down, we ran across two women with a “Me Too” shirt. Those are t-shirts from the church I attend. FCC people are everywhere.
  • I saw a Colorado shirt I had not seen before, but I really like it. It said, “Sea Level is for Sissies”
  • We ran into an old friend, Judy Henson as we came down. She and her family/friends where going up.
  • Finally, the site that falls into the category of “Now I have Seen It All”. There was one guy that started up and came down about the same time as we did, but he did it a little different that we did. He used an unicycle. He rode and it pushed it up the mountain. At the top he rode it a bit in a snow field. Then coming down he rode it till he would fall. Then he would get back on it and do it again.

As I have said and will continue to say, I think the best sports guy is, Drew Litton. Well, Drew has taken his game to the next level, he has started animation.

He sent out a press release, which the writer of this blog was included on. That makes me feel great!

Below is the debut of the Broncos Zoo. Drew is looking for comments about, so you can leave him comments at his blog.
