I WILL FOLLOW, I WILL FOLLOW

What is it they say, “Leave Them Wanting More”? I guess that is what happen with the last entry on cold U.S. cities. Well, at least Monkey Pen Members Todd and Rick wanted more data.

So in a follow up post here is the information on the cities (Alamosa, Colorado; Cut Bank, Montana; Williston, ND, and Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii) they request (with the table data from the last entry for easier comparison). I figured I could do one more story on the coldest cities.

Yes, I understand Hawaii is not part of the lower 48 states as was what was I looked on in the last post, but it is here for as Rick said, “for the ‘compare and contrast’ approach”.

BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE

Just when you think American’s might run out of things to sue others over, they continue to find new ways. Two cities have decided to sue each other over the title “Ice Box of the Nation”. You can read more about it here.

My first thoughts were why would any city want to be named the “Ice Box of the Nation”? I would doubt that the title really inspires more tourism, but I don’t know. It probably involves money that I don’t know about or the two cities (Fraser, Colorado and International Falls, Minnesota) have other good reasons. I am pulling for Fraser, Colorado as I am from Colorado and I was married near Fraser.

Then I started wondering which city is really the colder city or if there might be another city in the lower 48 states (I am guessing Alaska has come cities colder than cities in the lower 48 states) that is colder. Two cities off the top my head that I could think of were Gunnison, Colorado and Fargo, North Dakota. It seems to me are just as cold when I watch the weather.

So I went to weather.com and found the average monthly temperatures for all four cities. Granted it may not be the way the lawyers and courts will decided it, but for a simple man like me it seems like a good idea. So below is the average high and lows per month for each of the four cities that seem cold to me. I will let you figure out which city is cold enough for you to visit on your next vacation.

YOU’RE THINKING THAT YOU’VE GOT ALL THE ANSWERS

Wow, what a sad turn out. No, I am not talking about the Iowa Caucuses. I am referring to my blogs first contest. Only two people even attempted to make any guesses and one other person committed to paying more attention. So it is hard to consider the contest anything but a failure. So will I do this again, probably, like failure ever stopped me before.

Why no one tried to make guesses is a mystery to me. Was it that it was too hard of a contest? Was it the prizes were not good enough? Was it just no cared? Was it no one reads this blog anymore? Was it because everyone was on holiday vacations?

However, for now it is time to honor the winners.

  • Question 1: During the year 2007, how many books did I read?
  • The Winner is Matt R – The correct answer was 44. He came closest to that amount. He will get the Chipolte card.

  • Question 2: List as many book titles as you can that I read in the year 2007.
  • The Winner is Bill P – He was able to list 5 of the 44 books I read. He did not get any of the three that were listed on the left hand side when the question came out. I left them there so people could at least get three. So, I am impressed he did get five without any of the ones I left as a hint. He will get the iTunes Cards.

I will not list the 44 here because I am not sure anyone cares, but if you want to see the list let me know.
