DID YOU FEEL THE MOUNTAINS TREMBLE?

Yep, July 23, 2007, was another beautiful day for time in the mountains for some friends and I to complete another 14er! This time we hike the 5th highest peak in the state of Colorado, La Plata Peak, which stands at 14,336 feet above sea level.

Oh, how much I needed a day off and time in the mountains for hiking. Frankly, I need a lot more of that kind of quality time off. The issues of life just seem so far away and not as heavy while I am struggling to breath, while my legs burn with pain, and the idea of taking one more step is I got going for me. Plus, the time to pray, meditate, and enjoy creation while I struggle with the whole hiking thing is great as well.

As for La Plata, we took one of the less used trails to the top of the mountain. The trail we took was Winfield Trail-head. Sunday night we found a nice spot to camp near the trail-head. It was a bit cloudy so we did not get to enjoy anytime of staring at the stars. Monday morning we got up and got going on the trail.

The first part of the trail as not bad at all, but then we came to the ridge. The climb to the ridge top was tougher than what had been doing and my calves hurt a bit. Then the last mile up the steep ridge was breath-taking and cause my quads to burn. It was not that fun but as always getting to the top was great.

The three of us, Bobby, Mike, and I enjoyed our time at the top and since we did climb on a Monday we did not see anyone else. I guess others did hike according to the book but we missed them somehow. That is OK, it make our time on a mountain that much more special.

When we went down we did go down a rocky, scree area. It was tougher to go down but save us time and was more of an adventure. Getting down earlier really helped Mike who needed to be back in Denver for a 6:15 PM softball game. It is good to be young and in shape like Mike. I was pretty beat down and whipped out, and I probably could have never done that. I was just glad to get out and climb my 31st 14er.

Click Here for some pictures of the trip. Maybe later more photos may get added after I get copies from Mike of the ones he took, but for now here is the sneak peak of the our hike.

IF A STRANGER CUTS YOU HAIR

This is just a big time, kudos to Lynzee! Why? She decided to want to give and she did give, which always make us proud. What she did was let her hair grow so she could cut it and give it to Locks Of Love program. They are a group that takes donated hair and uses it to help financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

Click Here are the before, during, and after pictures of her hair cut.

THAT’S HOW IT GOES WITH HEROES AND FRIENDS

What can I say, my friend Mike continues to be big time, and I continue to hang on for the ride. Mike has gotten a lot of sports connections now that he has interned for the The Patu Foundation, work as a reporter covering the Broncos for the Greeley Newspaper, and with his new job at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado.

Mike has been working as part of the group that runs a program called Sports Buddies. Last week they had football camp for the people involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters. You can watch a local news video of it here.

Once again I did get something out of Mike’s connections, an autograph card of my favorite Bronco, Karl Mecklenberg. Mike knew he was my favorite of all-time and got him to sign a football card.

Oh, I guess Karl must have known who I was. How would I know that? Simple, he signed under his name with the verse, Phil 4:8. So what does that have to do with me. It is a verse with the word Admirable (my nickname since college and thus why my company is called Admirable Consulting, Inc.) in it!

Thanks Mike and Karl!
