WASTE TIME WONDERING ABOUT
Ok, here are a few things I have done or thought that they could be blog stories. Maybe, none of them can make a good blog entry, but all together they at least make up a longer blog listing.
Kansas Tornadoes
My cousin Greg went down to Greensburg, KS after the tornadoes destroyed the town. He has friends there and spends time there every now and then. He sent some photos of the trip. Click Here to see the
some of ruins of the town.
If you want to help the victims, there tons of groups out there that help. However, I will just give a plug to the one we like to send our money to as we have been able to trust them to make sure the money actually helps the people in need.

Rockies Suite/End of a Era
Well, it had to end and it finally it did. My impressive streak of 11 games in a row over the last few years of seeing the rockies win every time I went to a game has ended. However, it ended with some style. For the first time in my life I sat in a suite at a baseball game. It was awesome not to be around the normal rift-raft like me (that is a joke). Plus, no one was in our way at every pitch like last time (see previous blog entry).
I learned that each suite a Coors Field is named after a 14er which is cool. We sat in one behind home. I will not tell you which one it was but it was a 14ers that I have already hiked. I did that peak with Bobby, who was one of the people in the group who attended the game. It was a hike that involved more than one 14er on the same day. Those can be some clues if you really want to know the name of the box we were in or at least narrow it down or you can ask me.
I may never get to be in luxury like that at the ballpark again, but who knows. A big thank you to Mike for making it happen for me. I did not take my camera but some of the others did. So when they send me the photos, I will add them. For now you can just read the recap of the game (it was a good pitchers duel).
No Banner
I guess no one from the Monkey Pen believes the rockies needs a banner on the wall to celebrate not losing two days in a row. No response came from that idea in the blog. So moving on.
Prophetic
I have to give a tip to Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post for his deep and sad but probably true line for his May 19, 2007 column: “Then there’s that vaunted Rockies bullpen. A few more lousy outings and some of those relievers are going to get contract extensions….”
NHL Update
Well, no Sabres to vote for anymore or Red Wings to boo anymore. So now who will I vote for to win the Cup? Well, I will pull for Ottawa. The Senators were part of the first NHL I ever saw live in person (that was in Winnipeg as the Senators took on the Jets in 1995, Click Here for the recap. So you know that means the Ducks will win.
Eagles Win
Congratulations to the Colorado Eagles. They won their 2nd CHL President Cup. Thus giving Colorado hockey fans a championship this year.
Eagles Win Again
Congratulations to the Faith Christian Academy Eagles boys track team. They repeated as the Colorado State 3A Champions.
And Again
Also, a big congratulations to the Faith Christian Academy Eagles boys baseball team. They won their first Colorado State 3A Title With that title, FCA won four state titles this school year (football, boys soccer, boys track, and boys baseball). They also were in the final four of both boys and girls basketball. That is a pretty good year for their sports teams. Also, with the baseball title, at least one of the baseball teams I root, root, root for actually had a winning record (25-2) and won a title.
Federal Cup 5K Walk
On May 19, 2007, I joined my wife (a federal employee) in a 5K walk at the Denver Federal Center. This was the 24th annual Fed Cup 5K. Mindy did very well. She took second place in her group and helped her office team win the team title in 5K race-walk. I just went to get some exercise and was not trying to hard. However, I ended up in 3rd in my group. Go figure.
Click Here for some photos of the event.
Into High School
Well, as hard as it might seem for some, the youngest child in this household is done with middle school and will start high school next year. At her school, the afore mentioned Faith Christian Academy holds a ceremony for the 8th graders. So you can Click Here for pictures of Lynzee’s last hours as a 8th grader.
I DARE YOU TO MOVE
It is time to play, “Know Your Baseball Etiquette”. The following are questions about proper rules for fans attending games at Coors Field (or most any other MLB parks).
A. Throwing a foul or home run ball back on the field
B. Possession of a glass bottle inside the stadium
C. Cheering for Barry Bonds
A. Water Bottles
B. Bad Relief Pitchers
C. Any fruit or vegetable larger than a grapefruit that is not sliced
A. Smoke in non-designated smoking areas
B. Use foul/abusive language or obscene gestures
C. Restrict movement in the seating areas during play
The quiz is here because after being at Coors Field Saturday night, I have come to see most people at game do not know how to be a fan at a baseball game. So it is time we discuss this problem a bit more as a public service announcement.
Oh, and just in case you did not know the answers, they are all C because that is what people guess for multiple choices normally. The answers come from the Colorado rockies’ website page on a guide for the being at the ballpark.
First the good stuff about the game, the rockies won. They beat the Giants 6-2 (click here for game details). The win means that the last 11 times (twice this year, seven times last year, and two time in 2005 [the last two I went to in 2005]) that I have been at Coors Field, the rockies have won. I can not believe I have seen them win 11 times in the last three years, let alone in a row.
The great part was Bonds was 0-3 and looked really bad when Fuentes struck him out with three straight sliders in the nineth. The bullpen did not blow the great game by Francis because only he and Fuentes pitched. Holiday had two home runs in the game and the Giants performed one of the worst runs downs I have seen since my last little league game and allowed Carroll to be safe at second.
The bad and the reason for the quiz, was how bad other fans around us (expect for the guy and his family in the row and to the left of us) were. See we had the top row seats on the upper deck and the seats at the top of the aisle looking down the steps. It seemed like they would be great seats with leg room but the problem was people were not courteous and did not restrict movement in the seating areas during play. When leaving or returning to their seats, they did not wait for a break in the action (between innings,, pitching changes, etc.) before entering the aisles. A lot of time they even stood their talking to people.
We were not able to see most of the game. After a while, I decided just to take picture of people in the way. To see some of people in the way, click here. I think the most annoying part was in between the bottom of the 6th and top of the 7th (a major break in the action), the aisle was completely empty. There is a picture of that as well on the page.
So next time you are at game, please for the love of baseball and for fans who actually want to watch the game, please follow some etiquette.
Monkey Meditations
- Thoughts About The New Spidey Movie: Spiderman is still a nerd no matter what happens to him and I like that about him.
- Is the rockies winning a series a sign of the end times?
- It was on the road no less.
- Winning 2 out of 3 is different plan for them that maybe they should try to do again this year
- Thoughts About The New Spidey Movie: J.K. Simmons still deserves an Oscar for his role as J. Jonah Jameson
- Can you really believe the Yankees had a position in their organization whose title abbreviation was D.O.P.E
- That would be Director Of Performance Enhancement
- You just can’t make these things up.
- Thoughts About The New Spidey Movie: Amazingly Mary Jane is used again as a hostage and Spidey must save her
- He is getting closer to the record and should break it this year
- It is going to be tough to watch that record fall from the man that big to someone I am not a big fan of
- Yet, Bobby Cox now now has been thrown out of 128 games and is closing into John McGraw’s mark of 131 ejections.
- Thoughts About The New Spidey Movie: Spiderman still does not do a good job of keeping his identity secret from the bad guys
- Gas is nearly as expensive is as a Starbucks
- A loan is going to be needed to drive to Starbucks to get a drink.
- That is ok for me as I don’t drink anything from Starbucks, but my wife and step-kids are addicts, so I may go broke.
- Thoughts About The New Spidey Movie: No Ogres or Pirates were in it
