MORE THAN A NAME ON THE WALL

Baseball
Monkey Pen members Todd and Rick have come up with an idea. Rick, who according to many blogs is credited with getting the Wild Card Banner removed from the wall (so since it is on the Internet it must be true) and Todd think we need to celebrate the rockies success of not losing two days in a row (that would be last Wed with a 11-3 victory over the Mets and Thurs with an off day) and having the more wins as the evil empire (Yankees) by painting the outfield way with a banner.

So I am asking the rest of the Monkey Pen to be part of the “Come Up With An Appropriate Banner” Contest! I would like to find a great slogan to hang on the wall. Please note, no idea about the Royals being better than the rockies will be accepted, this is not a sci-fi banner.

My first idea is to honor the ownership, “M&M’s Money, stays in their pockets not in the team”. However, I am open to any ideas to celebrate the rockies achievements.

Congratulations to Troy Tulowitzki on the job he did to turn the 13th unassisted triple play in major league history.

Basketball
I am not a big basketball fan, but I have an idea to fix one part of the game I don’t like. Maybe the NBA Godfather (the commissioner) will take my idea to heart. What I hate is that last few minutes of a game that start at around 10 PM on a Friday night and does not ended till 11 AM on a Sunday because the team that is behind fouls the other team to stop the clock and force that team to make free throws. I think it is time to take a clue from hockey and lacrosse.

In the last five minutes of the game, if a player fouls, they could go to the penalty box and their team should play with one less guy than the other team for two minutes (five minutes for a flagrant or technical foul). So the game will not go on forever and it would be a lot more fun to watch.

Also, the need for two minute penalty for floppy/driving also is a given.

Hockey
After the first round of the NHL, my team for this years playoffs, Buffalo, is still alive and well. Go Chris! However, the booing of the Red Wings did not stop them from going on. So round two still has me voting for the Sabres and booing the Red Wings.

I was sad to see the Forsberg and Nashville lost in the first round. I am thinking that might be the end of Peter’s career in the NHL.

Also, the Colorado Eagles, are once again in the CHL semi-finals series. Go Eagles!!!

Lacrosse
Oh, the might Mammoth had a heartbreaking lost in the first round of the NLL playoffs. So no back to back championships for them.

Football
I can not say I am excited about the Broncos draft but it may not be bad. I guess we will find out more when the season starts. However, I guess it is safe to say this draft marked the end of going after former Browns to be the defensive line.

The Crush had a nice win this weekend over the KC. Really, it is not a surprise to see a Colorado football team beat a KC team though, but it is always great to see.

NOW WHO YOU GONNA BELIEVE YOUR SWEET LOVIN’ DADDY OR THOSE LYING EYES OF YOURS

The new ESPN commercial is very funny. I laughed pretty hard when I saw it and I am sure baseball fans will love it. I think Yankee and Red Sox fans both agree about it and love it. Check it out. It is the one called, “Betrayal”.

YOU SHOULD SEE THE STARS TONIGHT

Wednesday night, April 18th, was a beautiful night under the Colorado sky. Thanks to Bob, once again, I was able to enjoy the night at Coors Field with a free tickets to a rockies game.

This was my first game in person this year. I saw seven games at Coors Field last year and every time the rockies won. So I was hoping that my streak of seeing the boys of summer win would continue and it did! The rox beat the dreaded Dodgers 7-2. It was great! Plus, we got to a coupon for one Hebrew Hot-dog for $1 when we walked in the Coors Field. Not a bad deal at all.

Some other notable things from the left field bleachers we were in. The team has installed some solar panels near the rock-pile. That is cool and they nice and hopefully useful to saving energy. Phil, the rockies attendant who sat in the area just below us was great. He was a funny and nice guy. That was nice to see at a rockies game. Really.

The crowd around us was awesome. Real baseball people. There was dad with his son who was about 8 years old and they were sharing a game together. His dad was teaching him a lot about the game and he was loving it. The group behind us loved baseball like me and understood the game and were not making stupid comments. They were also teaching the boy a lot of good things about the game. The people in the row with us were great as well. The beer vendor was pretty funny, especially the comments he shouted to the Dodgers left fielder.

The attendance looked really small. I thought there was more people at the Mammoth game I was at last Thursday than at the rockies game last night. The official attendance said was 20,366 there. Now maybe it was that high, since there was a lot of Dodgers fans at the game and I did not look at the crowd too much during third inning and the seventh inning when LA fans would have came and left.

It was weird not hearing Alan Roach’s voice as the PA guy. That might take some time getting use to.

Overall, it is was great to be at the ballpark on a great night and get another rockies win! Thanks Bob!

The Denver Post ran a story on preparing for a 14ers. This story does make me feel tired; thus it helps me want to get in shape for hiking season. I am working on it. Really!

I thought I would mention the story as it does have helpful tips for those who are being called to the high altitude this summer. You can read the story by clicking here.

For all of us David Crowder Band fans, click on the photo to watch his latest video for the song “Foreverandever Etc.” (the one with the Keytar).

If you have not heard him talk about how squirrel are evil, check out the video of him talking about them.

This weekend is the Robotics Competition by NASA. Lynzee’s school, FCA, is part of it. She is not part of it, but my company does support the team by advertising in their magazine. Here is the link if you want to check out or watch the event http://robotics.nasa.gov/events/webcasts/championship_2007.php

The Friday (4/13) and Saturday (4/14) matches will also be broadcast live on NASA TV. The full details can be found at http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html

The team is called, the FUSE, 1826, is in the Curie Division.

NUMBER XX – GET – IN – THE – BOX!!!!!
Well, I said in the blog I should attend a Mammoth game this year and it just happen to work out so I could go to a game last night. It was a last minute thing thanks to an extra ticket by Jesse! The Mammoth won their last regular home game of the season, 13-12, and clinched West Division Title!

Since the Mammoth scored 13 points, everyone with tickets won a free custard from Good Times Burgers.

BLAME IT ON THE FAME AND SAY IT’S JUST SO TOUGH BEING A CELEBRITY

I saw this on The Hosh but I just had to add it here. It just so tough when celebrities that I loved as a kid turn bad.

Don’t forget to read the scrolling news at the bottom.

Monkey Meditations

  • Things to do now that the Avs are not in the playoffs: Boo The Red Wings
  • Since the Avs did not make the NHL playoffs, who should I vote for to win the cup?
  • I will not vote for Detroit, Vancouver, Dallas, Minnesota, or any team from CA, NY, NJ, or FL
  • That only leaves Buffalo, Atlanta, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Nashville, or Calgary
  • Things to do now that the Avs are not in the playoffs: Pretend to care about the Nuggets
  • I was a Penigun fan before the Avs moved to Denver and the first NHL game I ever saw involved Ottawa in Winnepeg.
  • The other teams have some good former Avs on them that I like.
  • However, I would like to see Durry win it and give the city of Buffalo to be happy about
  • Things to do now that the Avs are not in the playoffs: Attend a Mammouth Game
  • Well, as in all the football pick groups that I am in, I was able to defend my titles in the college basketball bracket groups
  • Back to Back championships in both football and basketball
  • To the 120+ people I beat again, buck up. Maybe, next year someone who knows less or cares less about basketball than I do might enter and win.
  • Things to do now that the Avs are not in the playoffs: Try to believe in the rockies
  • So far the rockies have not been horrible
  • Yet, it is still earlier so I am trying hard to have hope in them
  • At least the TV ads for the team have been pretty funny this year
  • Things to do now that the Avs are not in the playoffs: Play more golf like the players
  • Congratulations to Kevin and Heather on the birth of their first child, Natalie!
  • A big heartfelt sympathy and prayers for the family of Fred Hargrove
  • He was a good man did great things for his country and God and who touched many people’s lives
  • Things to do now that the Avs are not in the playoffs: Workout more so I am in shape to boo the Red Wings

LOVE SO INCREDIBLE TO KNOW

Resurrection Eggs

Around Easter every year, I think back to when I used to be a tutor/mentor at The Third Story. The teacher (sometimes A.B. and others Becky) would use eggs like the ones above to tell the Easter story. I still think it is my favorite teaching for Easter and every year the kids loved it.

Each egg would be filled with a symbol of the Easter story, like a donkey Jesus rode on, the cross, etc. Then the teacher would have a kid come up and open the egg to see what was in it and they would learn about that part of the story. As each egg was opened, excitement would build what would be in the egg. When we got to the last egg, the anticipation was pretty thick. When a kid got to open the last egg, the surprised look on their face was great to see as the last egg was empty. Then the teacher would explain that the grave that Jesus is in is also empty!!! Then we would sing this fun song and everyone would really get into the “No, No, No, No, No, No, No” part!

God’s Not Dead, No! He is Alive
God’s Not Dead, No! He is Alive
God’s Not Dead, No! He is Alive

I feel Him in my Hands, (clap clap)
I feel Him in my Feet
I Hear Him in the Church
And I Hear Him on the Streets, Beep Beep
I Feel Him in the Air
I Feel Him Everywhere
I Feel Him All Over Me

No, No, No, No, No, No, No
No, No, No, No, No, No, No

HAPPY EASTER!!!!
