PLAN OUR DREAMS WHERE THE PEACEFUL RIVER FLOWS

You know what I hate most about Westcliffe? It is not the long drive to get there. It is not the altitude or the all the tourist in town in the summer. It is not even going there to do lots of manual, heavy labor for my parents. It is the leaving that I can’t stand.
This past weekend I headed down there to help my parents with yard work and moving lots of heaving things. I thought it would be nice to get away from the 100+ °F (38 ° C) temperatures in Denver and get some mountain time. I did not get to get in any hiking, but I got a lot of family time and a lot of sitting on the porch by the creek looking at mountains.
Oh, it was nice to get some time of mountain refreshment time in, but coming back to real life with all the ups and downs it has is just so tough.
WATCH THE LIGHTING WHEN IT LIGHTS UP THE SKY
So how did we spend America’s 230th birthday? Well, it started Monday night by celebrating my mother’s “29th” birthday. We went up to my parents house where mom, dad, my brother and his wife (who made the trip out here from Palm Springs) were at. We had a BBQ burgers and home-maded ice cream and had a good time hanging out as a family.
Then Brian and Shawn stayed out our house and hang out with us on the morning of the 4th. We watched a movie and had BBQ Chicken. So we did out part as American to have a lot of BBQs. Then Brian and Shawn went to spent the rest of the 4th with some friends in northern Colorado.
We went to back to near the old hood to hang out with our friends Jesse and Abbie at Bandimere Speedway. There we got to see some drag racing and fireworks. It was a great time seeing some fast cars and we ran into our old neighbors early in the afternoon. It was great to see them.
Then rain clouds and lighting moved in. We watched the clouds and lighting come for about a half hour. When the clouds got to our area, they opened up and poured out the much needed rain. We sat there for about a half hour thinking it would blow over but it got worst. So we went we went and sat in Jesse and Abbie’s van for awhile. After another hour we headed back to the stands to finish up the evening.
We got back to the stands we saw the speedway crew trying to dry the track for more racing but the light steady rain make it so they could not. So they did bring in the jet cars to give us a show of fire and so we could hear really loud engines even through they did not race the machines.
We ended up sitting by some other friends, the Fye Family. It was nice to run into them, too.
Then came the fireworks which was a good oh and ah show.
For my loyal blog readers (which if you have a good idea for a good nickname for the loyal blog readers let me know), here are some pictures of our day at Bandimere.
MY REWARD WORTH LIVING FOR
Having been challenged by my pastor’s sermon last week to see if I could play golf and still be a Christian, I went and played again. Sure, maybe that was not the point of the sermon, but I got that out it. I linked to it so you can determine for yourself if that was his point or not.
I had not been on a course since my brother’s wedding and I had not played golf since losing to Stonestead lastMay. So I was wondering if I had gotten better or worst since then?
As it turns out Stonestead organized a trip to Evergreen Golf Course on Saturday, so I got check out my latest two reasons to play golf.
As for the improvement question, it turns out it did not matter much. I shot almost the same as last year, got a blister on my thumb, and I still can not putt. Frankly, if I can ever learn to be a bad putter instead of a really horrible putter, I could knock 10-20 points off my score. That is sad. Oh sure, I need to improve my driving, irons, and chip shots but putting is what kills my dreams of shooting under 100.
I shot a 104 on Saturday, and if you don’t know a lot about golf that means Tiger is not worried about me at all. However, I had fun and for once I did not have any hole be really bad. Normally, I have at least one hole that I melt down at and have double digits on that hole. Not on this Saturday. So I guess the year off did help.
Did I beat Stonestead and Bill (those were the guys I wanted to beat on the trip) or the others who played with us. I am not sure. I know for sure I lost to one of the guys. He was too good to be in our group. Dood only played 9 holes but he did just have major surgery, so I can not I can compare against him. I know I beat Bill (I will be kind and not mention his score), but Stonestead has yet to revile his score to me. So I am still hoping I beat him. I am sure it will be in his blog this week.
In the end, am I like my pastor and not be able to play golf and be a Christian. No, I had a great and fun time and had no problem keeping the faith. I guess I am not as obsessive as he is. Also, I think playing more times than once every year may help. Finally, learning to putt would be a good thing to do. I search the web for good putting tips before my next trip out.
