WHEN THE RAIN STARTS TO POUR
As we end out 2005, I thought I would start a new tradition for the blog. I am going to place links to an entry my friend’s blogs that I enjoyed a lot. So it give you a chance review their 2005 work.
Happy New Year!
Concrete Cross: A.B. had lots of good stories as she is a great writer, but this one was probably my favorite.
Diamond in the Rox: Sure it was tempting to link to my blog entry as his guess blogger, but I went with one of Todd’s.
Notes From The Morning Meeting: Frankly, I have never meet Rick but I have gotten to know him through mutal friends, his blog, and emails. I am told this entry is even funnier if you know Rick because these things happen to him too often.
Kurts Musings: Kurt is a great guy and I like this entry because I was there and it reminds me of Goat Boys.
Zaydaya’s Dad: Although, I really do not know Joel that well, I enjoy his perspective on things.
The Stonehead: He has blogged for many years and has great stuff. However, this link only takes you to November 2005. You will have to scroll down November 2, 2005 to get to the story I wanted to link to. While you are there, email Chris and ask him when is his “blog” going to catch up with technology?
MovedOn: Did you know Bill likes politics and has opinions?
Next Steps with Pastor Karl: Karl has not an entry in awhile and I am not sure why, but I like his stuff.
Live Love, Think Truth: The life of Jordan!
LivingLarge2: Sadee’s blog.
MAKE A VEGETARIAN BARBECUE HAMSTER
If you know me or have read this blog long enough, you know that our family enjoy concerts. We spend most of our “extra” money on concerts or sporting events it seems. So it should be no surprise that part of our Christmas gifts this year was tickets to a concert on December 29, 2005.
We went to the show with our friend, Colleen, and met up with her brother-in-law, nephews, and niece. The concert was up in Loveland at the Budweiser Events Center, home of the 2005 CHL champion Colorado Eagles. I had not been to this venture before, so it was great to check it out. It is a nice place, but I was disappointed that the talking frogs were not there. I figured that was where Bud had retired them to, but I guess not. As for the our view, well our seats were about as far away from the stage as possible. However, there were about 10-15 rows of people behind us and we were there. So that is ok by me.
Openning up the night’s music was a local band that we have seen a few times at TNL, called Foolish Things. They got to play about seven songs. They have a great rocking sound and are a becoming a very good band. They need to do a little work to have a more polished set, but that will come with more experience.
After a little break, the main band entered the stage. They are probably my favorite band, so I was very excited. This was the third time I had seen the Newsboys in concert. I was surprised that they did not have video screens up so you could get the close up look at Peter Furler and the boys like normal.
Overall, the show was great. Every song is awesome and I never seem to get tired of them. I love their sound, their humor, and the unique lyrics of their songs. My favorite song that they sing is also the song I want at the celebration of my life after I take my last breathe, Breakfast. It is just so fun to sing; especially when thousands of people really get into it as much as my family does.
As we left the concert, we ran into Kevin and Heather, who run into at concerts, no matter how much they try and avoid us. So that was a nice way to end the night after a great concert. Better luck to Kevin and Heather at the next concert, maybe they can avoid us at that show.

MIGHT WIN AN OSCAR
Since 2005 is about finish up its existence, I thought I would do at least one review about something I did in 2005. So I am going out on a big limb and ranking the movies I remember seeing in 2005 either by DVD or by going to the local movie theater establishment. Exciting stuff, huh!
9. Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith – Nice special effects, bad story.
8. Fever Pitch – Alright movie. Great one-liner about the Royals.
7. Herbie: Fully Loaded – Ok, but lack the humor of the originals.
6. Madagascar – Main stars were bad, but the militaristic penguins were awesome.
5. Hitch – Some moments, but the slow pace and predictable story makes it tough to love.
4. The Great Raid – Awesome WWII movie that more people need to see.
3. Batman Begins – Finally, the Batman movie people produce a great one.
2. Kicking and Screaming – Coffee, Ditka, and Juice-box, who know that was such a funny combination.
1. Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe – Just saw it, the graphics were awesome, it does not ruin the book, and it is a must see.
WILD THING, YOU MAKE MY HEART SING
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays or Happy Hanukkah or Merry December 25th or Bah, Humbug, whichever works for you.
Christmas Teaching Thoughts:
- I don’t like many Christmas sermon’s as they are all the same. However, there are two I have really enjoyed, so I thought I would link to them here.

Christmas Cartoons:
STRANGELY OUT OF PLACE
Yes, I am a Bronco fan. Yes, I am a Rockies Fan. However, I go to a lot more Rockies games than Broncos games for various reasons. Like the cost, there are more Rockies game to attend, I love baseball more than football, and football on TV is pretty good. However, I did get to attend the Ravens/Broncos game at Mile High (sorry that is what I am calling the field unless they change the name to Admirable Consulting Stadium).
It was a fun time, and Denver won (barely)! Being there got me thinking about the difference between Bronco and Rockies games.
- Both teams like to have their starters get behind right away.
- Broncos fans are happy to see the team owner, and Rockies fans would like to see a real team owner.
- Bronco’s scoreboard graphics are awesome, the Rockies are pretty sad.
- Rockies have a good system for checking out of town scores, the Bronco’s system was so-so.
- Both teams have methods to slow down offense, the Rockies use a humidifier and the Broncos use Jake’s interceptions.
- Thunder is cool, Miles is scary, and Dinger should be traded.
- They both has a lot of the same peanut/pop/beer vendors and street entertainers.
- Including the loud, street preacher who gives us followers of Christ a bad name.
- Bronco games are much louder, but maybe because there is something to cheer about.
- Both teams believe in making movie theaters snack bars prices look cheap.
- At old Mile High G0-Rockies could compare with In-Com-Plete. At Coors Field Go-Rockies is sad.
- Rockies games have more Braves or Cubs fans than their fans, Bronco fans come to their games.
- Broncos have dingy cheerleaders talking on the scoreboard or throwing t-shirts to fans. Rockies have Dinger.
- Both teams like letting their opponents score late in the game.
- Bronco’s show replays of the play to help the fans out, Rockies figured you already have seen it enough.
- Bronco’s have a guy with orange oven mitts for helping with TV timeouts, Rockies have Drew Goodmen helping people to timeout Rockies TV broadcasts.
Blog
Before I get email from those who tend to notice these things, yes, I used a title for this story and the last entry from the same song. Different titles, same song. As normal, the song titles info is on the name that title page.
I FIGHT THE WEIGHT
Blogging Block. Is that a term, yet? It seems to me it would be like Writers Block. Frankly, I just have not had any ideas for writing an entry of late, Blogging Block, I guess. There has been a lot of things to write about like the Rockies made some trades, the Broncos have had some interesting games, the world was filled with news, lots of family stuff going on, and even the fact I filled up the gas tank at $1.97/gallon a week ago. None of them inspired me to write anything.
So what did I do instead of writing a blog entry, I redesigned the look of the blog and the website instead. Why? Well, because I can first and foremost. Second, because I was asked by a friend how to do something with css and html. I did not know off the top of my head, so I figured it out by changing my website. Finally, because I have to keep up with my friend Todd. He updated his site, so a course, I had to redo mine.
WEIGHT GAIN
Are you worried about gaining a few extra pounds over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the Holidays? Well, it could be worst, you could be Santa Clause. I did a little research on-line to see how many calories he could gain on Christmas Eve since everyone leaves him cookies and stuff. Well, apparently, someone else had already figured that out as it is all over the web (see the world wide web is not useless). In case you have not seen the facts on Santa diet failure, here you go.
“If every one of the 91.8 million homes with good children were to put out a single chocolate chip cookie and an 8 ounce glass of 2% milk, the total calories (needless to say other vitamins and minerals) would be approximately 225 calories (100 for the cookie, give or take, and 125 for the milk, give or take). Multiplying the number of calories per house by the number of homes (225 x 91.8 x 1000000), we get the total number of calories Santa consumes that night, which is 20,655,000,000 calories. To break it down further, 1 pound is equal to 3500 calories. Dividing our total number of calories by the number of calories in a pound (20655000000 / 3500) and we get the number of pounds Santa gains, 5901428.6, which is 2950.7 tons.”
