- Random Baseball Quote, “The key to being a good manager is keeping the people who hate me away from those who are still undecided.” – Casey Stengel
- Actually, that might be good for any type of manager.

- The Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL fired their coach. Man, I guess not winning a game since around May 2004 hurts a coach. Especially compared to the other coaches who have not lost a game since the lockout.

DADDY KNOWS HE’S WAITING SO HE HURRIES ON HIS WAY
There we were talking with our neighbor about what he was going to do for Father’s Day and it involved some work around the house and running errands. Then it hit us that Father’s Day is not a day off or a day of rest for most dads. Sure there are the cool gifts, but it is not a free day.
However, we decided another holiday is more of a man’s day. It is a day of great food that a lot of men get to enjoy without doing too much. Plus, they get to watch football most of the day. The man’s day is Thanksgiving. So don’t complain too much about the Father’s Day work when Thanksgiving will be here soon enough. Well, in five months.
EVERYDAY FOR A FATHER
So let me get this straight, having to be in a room where the temperature is not comfortable to you, having your personal space crowded, and having to listen to music by people like Christina Aguilera is torture? Sound to me like a life of every American father who have teenagers.
My wife and kids are always colder than I am so the house is too hot for me. Personal Space, I have some but not like I would like, so I feel crowded a lot of times. Music I don’t like that much, yep that is here, too. I wonder can fathers ask Amnesty International to write a horrible report on teenagers? Dads do not try to kill as many innocent Americans and we still get that the same treatment as those inmates. Happy Father’s Day.
TELL ME A STORY
I think it is time for people to stop comparing things and people to Hitler, Nazis, Stalin, or brutal acts unless there are really that bad. It demeans the millions and millions of poor people who really suffered and/or died because of the brutal acts. It demeans the soldiers in World War II who fought for freedom and our current soldiers who are doing a job for us. Bush, Kerry, Clinton, Kennedy, any other U.S. politician, or policy are no where like those horrible people or policies. You may not like them, but stop the bad comparisions because it is not fair to those who really suffered because of real evil. So please, stop exaggerating. We don’t let our kids do that because it is lying. Does that lesson only apply to kids?
PAINFUL
Speaking of painful (I would say torture, but I just did that exaggerating spill), the rockies pitching staff lead the NL in walks, hit batsmen, and wild pitches. Does this mean we will win the pitching triple crown award? Maybe, we can have a big awards ceremony at the begin of next year recognizing how bad the 2005 pitching stinks.
In other rockies notes, the rox and Braves have used 13 rookies at this point, yet, our records are vastly different. I guess with good veterans around to help rookies things work better. Did the rockies missed that part of the formula?
BATMAN BEGINS
Finally, we saw Batman Begins and I must say they finally got a Batman movie right. It was great and I do recommend it.
THE TIME HAS COME
Well, I think the time has come to set Helton free. I hate to say this, but the rockies should trade him now while his value is worth something. They waited too long to trade, CJ, Wilson, Walker, etc. and in return got not very much. I know Helton’s contract is hard to trade, but I am sure they can do it because he is a great player. The man deserves it. I will miss him a lot. However, it is going to be a long time before the rockies compete; so why not set Todd free now?
Ok, I knew the local boys of summer were desperate for pitching, but to take a 11th grader in the draft. Yikes. Ok, yes it was a mistake on the rockies part, but I wonder if the kid that was picked feels great about being selected by a major league team or worried that he might be a rockies pitcher?
The catcher that the rockies called up from Triple A Sky Sox, Danny Ardoin, threw out three of the first four runners attempting to steal. Why is that good to note, because the other rockies catchers have been horrible this season in throwing out guys trying to steal on the team. Closser and Greene had combined to throw out two runners — one apiece — in the first 56 games of the season. Thank you Ardoin for reminding us that base runners don’t have to be automatically given a free base.
Congratulations to the rockies on their 14th shutout of another team at Coors Field.
Speaking of Congratulations, way to go to another Colorado team on a championship. The Crush won the Arena Bowl, so Elway now can finally say he won a big game without Terrell Davis.
Tampa Bay Devil Rays player, Alex Sanchez, was designated for assignment by the team. He was only their best hitter. I wonder if they were afraid he might help them win a couple extra games? Maybe, they were afraid that if they didn’t make some more bad moves the rockies management would pass them as the worst front office in the league?
DREW
I have said many times before and continue to believe the best sports person in Denver is Drew Litton. Two more of his latest cartoons that are must sees. Check out the June 3rd cartoon and the June 13th cartoon.
SOFTBALL UPDATE
The rust of another two weeks off, showed and we lost 12-2. This game I played RF and 2nd base for the first time this year. I was 1-2 with a SF and RBI with the bat. So not too good for us. Hopefully, the bats return next week for our team. No word on whether we will get to play last weeks game.
GONNA TAKE THAT MOUNTAIN
What is it that makes is so addicting and fun? Is it the getting up early to avoid afternoon showers? Or is it being hot, cold, dry, and wet all at once? Is it the hurting muscles and blisters on your feet? Could it be the lack air and pounding heart that feels like it is going to explode? Maybe it is the long hours of walking up and down? The fear of lighting striking you out before you finish, is another possibility.
Who knows, what makes hiking in the mountains so appealing. I just know I feel so bless to live in Colorado so that I can hiking in the awesome creation. This last Saturday, I was able to hiking for about four hours with some friends, Alan, his wife Jo, and Bob. We went to a local state park that I had never been to and it was great. However, I am way out of shape and I need to work harder as some day soon, I will be hiking another Colorado 14ers.
Oh, I think it is the sense of being in nature with friends, the peacefulness that I feel as I am there, the beauty of the mountains, the sense of accomplishment, and getting out of your hiking shoes when the hike is done that makes is so fun.
SOFTBALL UPDATE
Well, the whole team showed up at 8:30 PM for our 9:15 PM game according the schedules we were given, so we were off to a good start. Then we found out that we had forfeited our game because they changed the time of our game to 6:15 PM and did not tell us. Thank you softball league for not telling us about the schedule change. Right now, we are still hoping our game is at 8:15 PM like we were told late week and we can get a makeup game of last week.
IF IT RUNS LIKE A DEER MAN HER EYES LIGHT UP
Yep, I love those small, mountain towns. For one thing, they still have parades on days like Memorial Day to honor those who have given all for the United States. For another thing, the mountains as a backdrop for the parade with the is great touch.
My wife and I were kid-free for the weekend. So we went up to Westcliffe to be with my parents over Memorial Day Weekend. Part of the weekend was a plan to watch the Memorial Day parade. However, next thing I knew I was in the parade.
What happen was I got to help out our friend, Jack, who just started Mountain View Equipment and Supply in Westcliffe. He put three tractors he is selling in the parade. When I got to town, dad let me know he was driving one of the tractors, Jack was driving one, and I was probably driving the third tractor. Wow, that was twist on the plan of watching the parade. However, when we got to the store, the other driver showed up and I was not needed. So I just rode on the tractor that dad was driving.
There will be pictures in the next personal website (not blog) update of my the first time I was in a parade.
Yep, I love those small, mountains towns. Shoot they even let a big city dweller (who wishes he was a mountain city man) be in their parades.
YARD SALE
To let you know, I am writing this blog from our family garage sale. It is my first live blog event. So far it is cold (42°F) and pouring rain. We had a few people early on. No site of anyone for over two hours. Oh yea, great action here. Very worthy of the first time this blog is a live blog. Not sure what my next live blog will be, maybe when we watch the paint dry after we paint the shed.
MORE SAD rockies THOUGHTS
- They are on pace for a 14-67 record on the road. Very, very sad.
- I have not been to a game since early August of 2004. This marks the longest I have gone without seeing a pro game (that includes Triple-A Denver Zephyrs and Colorado Springs Sky Sox games) since I got my drivers licenses. However, I should make a few here in the next couple of weeks.
SOFTBALL UPDATE
We had a Memorial Day bye week.
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
OK, after last post I want to answer a few emails about my blog that I got.
- Yes, the main title of every blog entry (except for the First Entry and any Monkey Meditations) are from a song.
- No, the last entry was not about the band Whiteheart who song “God Made Convertibles”. I am sorry that people were hoping it was about Whiteheart. I miss them, too.
