Monkey Meditations

Every once and awhile the blog entries will be what I am going to call Monkey Meditations. Basically, it will be my favorite style of writing, quick bullet points of random thoughts, points, and facts.

  • My current internal struggle, which is better Qdoba or Chipotle?
  • News I would like to hear from rox Spring Training: rox signed Chris Simon to be the team’s enforcer the season. (Yea, I kind of miss hockey).
  • Boy, I am glad to live in a state where a college professor can say horrible things about victims on 9/11 and not get suspended. Yet, the football coach of the same college can get suspended for a few months for saying something not nice about a women kicker he had on the team.
  • Are you looking for work, maybe you should apply for the position of Vice President, CMT Dukes of Hazzard Institute. Competition maybe tough, but sounds like it would be a great job to have.
  • I do like Chipotle’s meat more than Qdoba’s meat.
  • News I would like to hear from rox Spring Training: The new owners of the Colorado rockies are…
  • According to stories BBC News’ Website, France’s unemployment rate is over 10% and continuing to rise, and Germany’s unemployment mark is still hanging around 10%. Yet, the U.S. rate is under 5.2%, which is lower when President Clinton got elected to his 2nd term. So people it is not that bad living in the good, old USA. Quit complaining about it.
  • However, Qdoba’s 3-Cheese Queso on their chicken nachos or burritos is just awesome.
  • Words that are in my head and heart right now that are causing me think every day about the type of Christian I want to be, comes from the song “24″ by Switchfoot.
  • “I want to see miracles, see the world change
Wrestled the angel, for more than a name
    For more than a feeling
    For more than a cause
I’m singing Spirit take me up in arms with You
And You’re raising the dead in me”
  • Yea, I am leaning towards Qdoba, but both are good.
  • What is the next big sporting event, well I am thinking Shooting Cell Phones instead Clay Pigeons looks pretty fun. See the February 25, 2005, story at the Stonestead Blog for details.
  • News I would like to hear from rox Spring Training: Ticket and concession prices for the 2005 season are being lowered because the product on the field is not good enough to ask the fans to pay so much.

ADDING TO THE NOISE

Beginning Again
Colorado rockies pitchers and catchers report in a day and a few hours (Thursday, February 17, 2005) for spring training. At this point, the only thing I believe in my heart about this team is there is little hope for even a so-so season. My friend and I are doing our best to practice the line, “there is always next year”. That way we can be ready for this season.

I am hopeful that this young rockies club will show us some hope for future years. At least that is something to look forward to; well that and opening day. Opening Day is still a special day for us baseball fans, whether or not our team has little hope.

Radio Debut?
I made my radio debut the other day. Well, I think I did. See on Saturday (February 12, 2005) I went and donated blood (which I do every few years). This blood drive is a month long radio promotion put on by Denver’s Way-FM. While I was there, they ask me to do a pre and post phone interview with the on air DJ (Maverick). I did and really I said nothing profound. Frankly, I do not know if they every put it on the air, so I can only think I made my radio debut. If you did not hear it you probably missed nothing.

However, whether or not I was on the air I did help to save three people’s lives by given my blood, and that is a cool way to spend a little bit of my time.

Concert Reviews
It seems that in last few days, music has played a big role in my life. Last Thursday (February 10, 2005) I won two tickets to a private concert of a new artist named, Mat Kearny. The concert was put on by the people at Denver’s Way-FM. So my friend, Ethan and I went. It turned out to be fun but a short concert. I did put some pictures of it on the Celebrities page of the site. Mat has a unique music style and he is very funny. He just signed a record deal with a major label. So you might be hearing more from him very soon.

Then on Valentine’s Day 2005 (aka Single Awareness Day as Chris Tomlin called it at the concert), my wife and I went down to Colorado Springs to see the All Things New Concert Tour which features Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns, and Steven Curtis Chapman.

Mindy and I have seen Chris Tomlin and SCC before. We were looking forward to hearing them again and seeing Casting Crowns for the first time. Evil traffic made us late to the start of the concert. So we only saw a bit of Casting Crowns, but they were good.

SCC continues to amaze me; he has written so many great songs, and he is so smooth and powerful on stage. He called himself the weakest link in his band. I would love to be a weak link like that. A link so weak he has won nearly 50 Dove Awards, 5 Grammy’s, many other awards, countless hits and albums, a super singing voice, and fabulous skill on the piano and guitar.

It was a great night of worship and a great time with my wife. Music is something special my wife and can share together, whether times are good or bad in our lives. It is a deep connection for us.

Speaking of great worship at TNL, our church that meets on Tuesday’s night, usually feels like we are at a concert. The worship team is so good and something I do not want to take for granted. I am thankful every week that we can be part of music that brings me into the presence of God.

CAPTAIN CRUNCH IS WAVING FAREWELL

Not in Kansas Anymore
Ground Hog Day 2005, brought the passing of my last living grandparent, Grandpa Marion. Luther Charles Marion, lived a good, long, and Godly ninety-five years on this earth.

So I made a quick trip to South East Kansas to be with the family. As strange as it sounds, it was a good time. His funeral was a nice, simple graveside service, which I am sure he would have liked. Afterwards we went to a cafe in Sedan, Kansas and had a nice meal with friends and family. Then my parents, brother, aunts, uncles, and cousins gather at my Greg and Bev’s house and did what we always do together. That is sit around, eat, talk, laugh, and have a good time. I will have pictures from the trip on the personal site, soon.

At his funeral, I could not help but think about a line from a song called “Breakfast” by the Newsboys. I guess I always think of it at funerals as it is a song I want played at my life celebration (along with lots of other great worship songs by a rocking worship band).

Those here without the Lord,
How do you cope?
For this morning we don’t mourn
Like those who have no hope

I am sure Grandpa Marion is glad that we did not have to mourn without hope and that we got to celebrate with life instead.

Mutating Blog
A new choice has been added to this blog page. Since my last blog entry, I have learned more about a service for letting people who want to know when there is a new post. Because my schedule for adding the blog is whenever I feel like it, this might be a good service for those who want to know when a new post has been placed on the site.

If you don’t want to use the service, you can visit the site whenever you would like. Whatever works best for you.

To be part of the service, just add your email the section on the right hand side that says “Keep Me Posted”.

THE FIRST ENTRY

INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to Admirable Thoughts: Code Monkey Writings. Why do I have this blog here, you ask? Good question and it has a few answers:

  • First, I have two friends how have their own blogs for various things and their work has convinced me to join the world of writing out my thoughts for people to read.
  • Second, I figure if I did some writing of my thoughts it would help improve my writing and grammar skills, which need work.
  • Third, I wanted to know what it took to setup and maintain a blog for professional website design reasons, so if someone wants me to do it for them I can.

CONTENT:
What will the blog have for content, you ask? Well, probably a little about everything depending what is going on in my life from hiking, family, friends, sports, politics, religion, music, life, etc. It will be a way commenting more about the photos on the website. One of my friends, Todd, had me be a guess writer for his blog that mostly focus on Colorado baseball. So you can visit, my first blog article the DITr.

NAME:
The name, Admirable Thoughts: Code Monkey Writings, comes from keeping the Admirable nickname and adding the code name used in Chris’ blog as he does not refer to people by name in the Stondstead.com, but by a code names. Code Monkey was his initial term for computer people like him and I, but it evolved into a name for me.

UPDATES:
How offend will the blog be updated and how will we know, you ask? Good questions.
I will probably just write something once in while when I have time. As for knowing about when it is updated; you will just have to check in when you get a chance or read it when the I send out a note about the photos on the site being updated. However; this may change in the future.

NEWS STORY THAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION:
Did you see this story? It is about a town in Louisiana that just got phone service for the first time on Jan 31, 2005! As I read the story, I thought how much we Americans take things for granted. There are third world areas, like the state of Louisiana, that are just now getting phone service for the first time, and only 135 years after the phone was invented. Someday they might get to enjoy many other things that we take for granted like radio, color TV, microwaves, or running water.

LATE NIGHT THOUGHTS:
“Ted Kennedy said today the Democratic Party is still the majority party. So you know what that means: Ted’s been drinking again.”

—Jay Leno – 1/13/2005

“Baseball says it will be looking more closely for unusual signs that players are on steroids. Like, for example, if Arizona starts winning.”

“After nearly two years, the White House announced the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq is over. Of course it won’t really be over till the French say, ‘OK, we’re ready to go in.’ Then you know for sure. ”
